Response to "Young Writers: The People and Purposes That Influence Their Literacy" A. [Writing to Describe] A responsive classroom atmosphere, where students are motivated, encouraged, and instructed to write for their own purposes and to real audience, is crucial for the development of students as writers.
B. [Writing to Interpret] The author advocates that teachers create a classroom culture which motivates and encourages students to learn to write and continue to write. First, teachers should take students' writing seriously and give in-time responses. Besides, teachers should also help students learn to evaluate and respond to others' writing. Second, we should respect and encourage students' own choices of what to write and what to read. Only if students feel safe to write about their own experiences and feelings, can they feel confident to continue to write. Third, we should recognize and respect each student's unique way of development in language and writing. Fourth, communication is significant in a classroom for students to share and get ideas about what and how to write. Finally, teachers should be writers themselves and demonstrate to students writing skills through their own writing.
C. [Writing to Interrogate] Question 1: How will the practice be different in a middle school or high school classroom, where most students have learned some skills of writing? (How can we adapt the instructions to make these students benefit more?) Question 2: There are situations where students have to write for given purposes. How can we incorporate the information in this article into the instructions?
D. [Writing to Evaluate] Ways of application in my classroom:
I will ask my students to keep a journal and write at least 1 piece for their own purposes and interests each week.
I will instruct my students to create a portfolio and keep a record of their writing in a semester.
I will organize a sharing activity of students' writing weekly. Students will be encouraged to share their writing, talk about why and how they create it and new writing experiences they get through the process. Students will also be instructed to give responses to others' works as real readers.
We can build a classroom magazine, on which students can get their writing published.

Story:
It happened when Peter Jackson and some of the crew went to the potential Hobbiton site for the first time. Once they were there, Alan Lee (the one drawing) and John Howe, the conceptual designers, began to sit down the sketch the Hobbiton that they "saw" on this landscape. Jackson took out the camera and videotaped the great moment.Behind Alan Lee were John Howe, the co-producer, and Philippa Boyens, the co-writer.
From these pictures you can see the production of the epic trilogy is a huge marvelous collaborative project.
